2021 Ford F-150 MPG

2021 Ford F-150 MPG

People who drive pickup trucks on the roads of Hamilton, Madison, Morrisville, and beyond usually don't put fuel economy first on their list of important factors — after all, pickup trucks are built for power and performance.

Ford means to change all that with its latest model of F-150, however. Newly introduced this year is a class-exclusive available PowerBoost™ hybrid powertrain for the pickup, which combines great efficiency with tons of power. Friendly Ford of Hamilton takes a look at the 2021 Ford F-150 MPG and invites you to come to check it out for yourself.

Ford F-150 Engine Specs

2021 Ford F-150 Engine Lineup

The first thing to understand is that there are a whopping six engines available in the Ford F-150 engine lineup. Each one gets its own EPA-estimated fuel economy rating. These include a 290-horsepower 3.3-liter V6, an available turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 at 325 horsepower, an available 400 horsepower 5.0-liter V8, an available 250 horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 diesel, an available 400 horsepower turbocharged 3.5-liter V6, and the available new Ford PowerBoost™ hybrid tied to a 3.5-liter V6 and cranking out 430 horsepower.

King of the Hill: The PowerBoost™ Hybrid

The 2021 Ford F-150 MPG sees its best fuel economy numbers, as one might expect, from the hybrid powertrain in the class-exclusive PowerBoost™ system. According to the EPA, the Ford F-150 equipped with the PowerBoost system gets an estimated 24 mpg on the city and 24 mpg on the highway with four-wheel drive. When you go with rear-wheel-drive-only models, you'll get 25 mpg estimated in the city and 26 mpg estimated on the highway. All of this while still putting out astounding levels of power.

Next Up: The Power Stroke® Diesel Train

In the past, people would turn to diesel engines for fuel economy. In this case, it's still true. The Diesel comes in second only to the hybrid in estimated fuel economy. Here you'll get 27 mpg on the highway, better than the hybrid, along with 20 mpg in the city. That's also with the added stability of the four-wheel drive system this engine is paired along with.

Other Engines in the Lineup

After the hybrid and diesel, the 2.7-liter V6 rings in third in terms of fuel economy. It helps the F-150 get 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The 3.3-liter V6 gives you 20 mpg on city streets and 24 mpg on the highway. Fifth up, the 3.5-liter V6, which manages 18 mpg on city roads and 24 mpg when highway driving. Rounding out the lineup, the 5.0-liter V8 engine nets you 17 mpg city and 24 mpg on the highway. Remember, all of these figures are EPA-estimated, and switching between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive will make a difference.
